Should my hair extensions hurt after having them done?

If you’ve just had hair extensions installed, you may feel a slight straining sensation on your scalp, especially if it’s your first time. This is completely normal as your scalp adjusts to the added weight. However, there should be no actual pain. Within a few days, this feeling will subside, and your extensions will start to feel just like your natural hair.

Getting Used to Your Extensions

One of the biggest adjustments is washing your hair for the first time with extensions. The added weight of the water latching onto the extensions can feel quite heavy and unusual. However, after your second wash, you’ll be completely used to it.

How Long Until I Can Wash My Hair After Extensions?

It’s essential to wait at least 48 hours before washing your hair after having extensions installed. This allows the bonds (regardless of the method used) to properly set. Washing too soon can affect the application and longevity of your extensions.

Can I Go Swimming with My Hair Extensions?

Swimming with hair extensions requires extra care. Ideally, you should wear an XL swimming cap to keep your hair dry. However, if you’re on holiday and prefer not to wear a cap, consider putting your hair in a high bun to keep it out of pool or seawater.

If you’re concerned about splashes, pre-wet your hair with mineral water and apply our Extension Boost. This creates an additional barrier, protecting your extensions from chlorine and salt water damage.

Final Thoughts

Feeling a little different after getting extensions is normal, but pain should not be part of the experience. Give yourself a few days to adjust, follow proper aftercare, and take precautions when washing or swimming to maintain the health and longevity of your hair extensions!
